On the contrary of the Didgeridoo and Bansuri, the Hang has been found in the beginning of this millennium and has a diameter of 53 centimeters.

The Hang has two sides to play on. The “Ding”side has eight or nine tones and the “Gu” side has two or three tones. In the hole on the Gu side fits a “Dum”. With this the base tone (like the drone of the didgeridoo) drops half an octave.

Hang

The Dum is usualy used with low Hang’s by which the base toneis heavier. Now a days there are more then thirty Hanghang with for instant Arabic and Javanese tones. It’s possible to order a Hang by your own taste of tones. The making of combinations of tones in the tonecirkel (see highest picture) is practically infinite.

For 12 years, the two inventors and constructors of the Hang, Sabina Schärer and Felix Rohner, are creating unique music-instruments based on the

knowledge and the acoustic behaviour of the resonant body and on the study of all the music scales in the world. The Hangs are being shown in the Hanghouse near the atelier of PANArt, where they can be played in a quiet enviroment. If you visit PANArt, you will find a small house next to the river, where in January 2000, the Hang was born. If you want to spend a night, there is a room with a little kitchen for an affordable price.
